Nicola Fabiano is a Supreme Court Lawyer, Specialist in Civil Law, expert in personal data, protection, privacy and IT security, independent researcher.

Founder and Partner of the Fabiano Law Firm (1994).

Former President of the Personal Data Protection Authority of San Marino.

Former National Expert for the Republic of San Marino at:

  • Advisory Committee of the Council of Europe of the Convention on the protection of individuals with regard to the automated processing of personal data (Convention No. 108);
  • Ad hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAHAI - Ad hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence) of the Council of Europe.

Former consultant of the Congress of State (Government) of the Republic of San Marino with a role of collaboration with the aim of drafting specific legislation on personal data protection (11 / 2017-4 / 2018).

President of the Center for Information Technology and Forensic Innovation (CINFOR), institutional body of the Foggia Lawyer Association. 

Member of the scientific committee and teacher of "Advanced training course on personal data protection for the Data Protection Officer (DPO)" with the patronage of the Italian Data Protection Authority , the National Forensic Council (CNF) and the Foundation for the Forensic Innovation (FIIF) of the CNF, held by the Center for Information Technology and Forensic Innovation (CINFOR), institutional body of the Foggia Lawyer Association.

Member of the “IEEE SA P7007 Ontological Standard for Ethically Driven Robotics and Automation Systems Working Group” and chair of the “Data Privacy and Protection” subgroup;

Independent researcher, an activity that he cultivates publishing articles, essays, books, papers, frequently participating at international conferences on Data Protection, Privacy, Blockchain, Cybersecurity, Internet of Things (IoT) and digital innovations.

External consultant in European projects regarding new technologies and privacy, since 2008.

In 2010 - for research activities on data protection and Privacy by Design - he was recognized by Dr. Ann Cavoukian, former In-formation & Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (Canada), "Privacy by Design Ambassador" and in 2011 he’s been mentioned in the "Report on the State of PbD to the 33rd International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners" presented by the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario, Canada during the 33rd World Conference of Ga - Privacy on the status of Privacy by Design (PbD).

In 2017, the in-depth study of the blockchain began with reference to regulatory compliance with the legislation on the protection of personal data and the "Academic Member of the Athens Institute for Education and Research, belonging to the Law Re-search Unit and the Computer Research Unit ”of the Athens Institute for Education and Research - ATINER.

In 2017, he won the course on "Data Protection and Privacy Rights" promoted by the European Council in collaboration with the National Forensic Council (CNF).

Since 2017 he has been a member of the international working group "IEEE SA P7007 Ontological Standard for Ethically Driven Robotics and Automation Systems Working Group" within which he is chair of the "Data Privacy and Protection" subgroup.

Reviewer for the international scientific journal “Advances in Science, Technology and Engineering Systems Journal (ASTESJ)”.

Winner of numerous Awards including:

  • IEEE Award for contributions to the IEEE 7007-2021 standard "Ontologies for Ethically Driven Robotics and Automation" as a member of the Working Group (IEEE 7007 WG) - October 2021;
  • Best Paper Award for the paper entitled "The Meaning of 'Accountability,' 'Responsibility' and 'Liability' in the GDPR: Proposal for an Ontology", presented at "The Eleventh International Conference on Evolving Inter-net - INTERNET 2019 “, organized by the International Academy, Re-search, and Industry Association (IARIA) which took place in Rome from June the 30rd to July the 4th 2019;
  • Award for delivering a great keynote address at a plenary session of “The 10th International Multi-Conference on Complexity, Informatics and Cybernetics: IMCIC 2019”, March 12 - 15, 2019, Orlando, Florida, USA.
